Requiem Mass

On Thursday, I celebrated my first Requiem Mass in the Extraordinary Form. It was very moving to all gathered – the congregation, the servers, and myself included.  It makes me think. Why did we give this up? For some things, like the traditional Mass, words are not necessary. The Church’s Liturgy speaks for itself. Here are a few pics.

  1. I have a faint (with the passage of nearly 50 years) memory of having attended a Requiem at the former St. Ann’s Church in Woonsocket, RI. It was solemn, serious and made even a 5 year old reflect on the meaning of life. Dear Father Jay, please share more comments with us on this event. There were the six candles. The black vestments. The most memorable was the banner that proclaimed “Today is my turn, tomorrow will be yours.”

    • Thank you Rene. Remember our days in WCRJH? We were so blessed to have that church available to us. It is sad that it is closed today. I would love to celebrate a Solemn High Mass in that church. That is what is was made for.
