In 30 days, we can all say good bye! Yes, that’s right, the end is finally here. Well, that is if you believe the Mayan Calendar. Just do a search on “What’s going to happen on December 12, 2012” and you will get a truckload of scenarios. The Mayan Calendar dates back to at least 5 BC. It is made up of a number of different cycles and has a count of 260 days and somehow follows the cycle of the solar system. The whole system is pretty complex, but that’s not my point here. A few years back, people began claiming that the world is soon to end. The Mayan Calendar ends on 12/12/12, so the Mayan’s must have known something we don’t know.
This is all pretty funny. There is one thing we know is that the Mayans, and all those claiming December 12th will be the end of the world is what Jesus said: “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. But of that day or that hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father” (Mk 13:31-32). That’s right folks, no one knows when the world will end, not even Jesus, only God the Father knows when that exciting event will take place.
So, stop running around like a chicken with no head! Come back to reality. The world will indeed end and we have no way of knowing when it will happen. You can go to this site to see 242 dates that predict or predicted the world would end. All of us know a family member, a friend or acquaintance who was suddenly gone from our lives. They had no warning. Their life was gone in an instant. It could be the same for any one of us.
The world could end before you finish reading this post, it could be in 5 hours, 30 days or 1000 years. We all have a better chance of meeting our own end before the world ends. So the moral of the story is – Be ready! Go to Confession frequently. If you are prepared to meet you maker, than it doesn’t matter when the world ends. The only thing that matters if you die in a state of grace. Be sure that your soul is right with God. “Watch therefore — for you do not know when the master of the house will come, in the evening, or at midnight, or at cockcrow, or in the morning — lest he come suddenly and find you asleep. And what I say to you I say to all: Watch.” (Mk 13:35-37)
