Same-sex what?

The iPadre Catholic Podcast Posted on June 26, 2015 by Fr. Jay FinelliJune 26, 2015 7

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

As you must know by now, the United States Supreme Court has declared that people of the same-sex have a right to marry one another by a 5-4 vote. This is indeed a tragic and sad moment in the history of our nation, a nation founded on Judaeo – Christian values. This was once a nation of high moral standards. But, it all began to fall apart some 42 years ago, when the same court making abortion on demand the law of the land. Abortion became the new contraception and sex became recreation. The decision of today’s court only follows on years of judicial abuse by the same court.

What will flow from this evil decision will be left to be seen. However, it is clear that the tone that is now afoot in this nation is flagrantly anti-religion and anti-morality. We live in a live and let live society. Although that only goes for those who reject traditional morality, all others are told to conform to the new morality or else. The mouthpiece of the Democratic Party and the cultural elite, Hillary Clinton summed it like this: “deep-seated cultural codes, religious beliefs and structural biases have to be changed.” What Clinton meant was those who disagree with abortion on demand, same-sex marriage or any other immoral behavior ought to come on board or be punished for their disobedience.

We are now dealing with a new nation. The United States of America has been transformed under the many illegal actions of the Obama administration. It is as if we were living in the U.S.S.R. or the Third Reich. The people who insist on tolerance are the most intolerant. Yet, that is their weapon of choice. Language has been hijacked to meet the needs of the Alinskyites. Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger, in his homily for the as the Dean of the College of Cardinals which elected him as Supreme Pontiff stated: “We are building a dictatorship of relativism that does not recognize anything as definitive and whose ultimate goal consists solely of one’s own ego and desires.” This was the battle cry and wake-call that went unheeded.

Because of the silence of clergy of all ranks, the people of God has remained uneducated in even the most basic tenants of our Catholic faith. The have been evangelized by the world and accepted the new morality, even if out of fear of retribution. We have become a Church ever shrinking of people who will accept any compromise that comes down the pipe.

Many think the left has achieved it goal. This however, is only the beginning. In his book, Rules for Radicals, Saul Alinsky writes: ““Curiosity and irreverence go together. Curiosity cannot exist without the other. Curiosity asks, “Is this true?” “Just because this has always been the way, is the best or right way of life, the best or right religion, political or economic value, morality?” To the questioner, nothing is sacred. He detests dogma, defies any finite definition of morality, rebels against any repression of a free, open search of ideas no matter where they may lead. He is challenging, insulting, agitating, discrediting. He stirs unrest.” This radical will never cease, until they have wiped religion and morality off the face of the earth.

So what comes after same-sex marriage? The next step will be to demand all marriage officiants obey the law. It will start with civil officiants. Churches will either renounce their ability to perform civil ceremonies, or be denied that privilege. After this will come the attack on religious officials who refuse same-sex couples. They will once again use our language to weaken us. “How cold hearted.” “How judgmental.” “Jesus wouldn’t judge anyone like this.” “Christians are called to love everyone, they are so intolerant.” Next, they will demand compliance or consequences.

So, you think today’s decision will have no consequences? They didn’t think it could happen in Mexico until President Plutarco Cailes imposed anti-clerical laws in 1924. Approximately 90,000 people were killed in the three year war (1926-1929).

What can you do to change the situation? First, and most importantly you can pray, do penance and sacrifice. Strive to become the saint that you are called to be. Second, you can take part in the political process. Do not say that you can’t make a difference. Vote as a good and well formed Catholic should vote. And finally, speak up. Call your elected officials, not only when they do what is wrong, but to thank and encourage them when they do what is right.

We are living in very difficult times. I even think they are worse than the dark ages. However, we have hope. Good always conquers evil!

Back to the President of Poland

The iPadre Catholic Podcast Posted on June 11, 2015 by Fr. Jay FinelliJune 11, 2015 1

This guy is awesome! If only we could, would, elect someone like him. His first stop as president-elect was at the Shrine of Jasna Gora, Queen of Poland. Imagine of a president-elect of the United States made his first stop at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception? We must pray. There is nothing that God cannot do, “For nothing is impossible with God.” He and His mother can put an end to the faithless control of our great nation and set her back on her divine destiny as a “Light to all nations.” Let us pray for our president, our elected officials and for our fellow citizens that together, we may restore the USA to her dignity.

Presidents and politicians

The iPadre Catholic Podcast Posted on June 9, 2015 by Fr. Jay FinelliJune 9, 2015

It is possible for presidents and politicians to be good Catholic citizens and it is possible for them to become saints.

There are a number of saints that they can use as their example. St. Casimir, beloved of both Lithuanians and Poles. He was often found kneeling in prayer outside of closed churches. St. Louis IX, the only king of France to be canonized. St. Isabel of Portugal, married to the King of Portugal. Elizabeth was a Third Order Franciscan. These are just three of the many men and women who severed their nations, but served God first.

his great video of the new president of Poland chasing after a host that had flown away during an outdoor Mass. If only all Presidents and politicians had such a love for Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament and His Holy Church. H/t to Fr. Z

“Jesus Has Come Back”

The iPadre Catholic Podcast Posted on June 5, 2015 by Fr. Jay FinelliJune 5, 2015

Last evening, Sacra Liturgia USA 2015 concluded with a Solemn High Pontifical Mass, celebrated by Bishop Joseph Perry. At the conclusion of the Mass, there was a Solemn Echaristic Procession for the Feast of Corpus Christi. Hundreds of Catholics, including priests, deacons, seminarians and laity exited St. Catherine of Siena Church on E. 68th St. and headed south on 1st Avenue. Traffic was being directed by the great men in blue of NYC. Our first stop was St. John Nepomucene on the corner of 1st Avenue and E 66th St. After a period of Adoration, we once again took to the streets. Exiting St. John’s, we continued east on E 66th St., heading toward out final destination, St. Vincent Ferrer on the corner of E 66th St. and Lexington Ave. You can view the route of our procession on Google Maps. Along the pilgrimage route, all carried a processional candle to light the way for the Living Lord Jesus. Along the route, there was no heckling, but you could see many did not know what the “parade” was all about. Hymns were sung in both Latin and the vernacular. Along E 66th St., I had a very beautiful experience. A doorman for one of the apartment buildings was standing outside observing the procession, people were looking out windows and watching all along the way. However, as we approached the doorman, I clearly heard him say: “It has returned!” “It has come back!” A nearby woman asked him what had returned. He went on to say: “The Corpus Christi Procession.” “Jesus has has come back.” I was deeply moved by the excitement of this man, and the simple sharing of his faith with a woman who did not know, “Jesus has come back!” Tradition works! If we want to see the New Evangelization bear fruit, it begins with the Sacred Liturgy, so that everyone can witness that “Jesus has come back!

The Reception of Holy Communion in the United States

The iPadre Catholic Podcast Posted on May 26, 2015 by Fr. Jay FinelliMay 26, 2015 4

There is a great post about the posture of receiving Holy Communion in the United States(standing and in the hand). This practice has a very shady background in the way that it was forced on us and and a break with the Church’s long standing tradition. Most bishops were against the change, but games were played and we have been suffering from the results of this practice ever since. Christian Browne makes some really good points that would should all prayerfully reflect on.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the close of the Second Vatican Council. Pope Francis has decided to mark the occasion with the “Year of Mercy.” Despite much happy-talk and positive papal press, it is a time of foreboding in the Church. The anxiety over the coming Synod on the Family is substantial and growing, with the German bishops’ recent moves to formally ignore the Church’s teachings on sexual morality and the family. Their corruption, and the decayed state of the Church in Europe, is a source of much distress.

The social and political situation in the United States is also of concern. Soon, the Supreme Court may declare homosexual “marriage” a constitutional right. The Obama era has been marked by a series of assaults on religious liberty and the Church’s future ability to freely exercise its prerogatives is uncertain.

It seems an apt time, therefore, for the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) to take stock of the state of affairs ad intra Eccelsiam. By clearly examining the health of the inner life of the American Church, the bishops can lay a better foundation for dealing with the challenges from the outside.

Of particular concern these fifty years after the Council ought to be the changes made to the liturgy in the United States in the late 1960s and 1970s, implemented by, and under the authority of, the bishops’ conference. And the most fundamental of these changes relates to the manner of reception of Holy Communion at Mass, whereby the vast majority of today’s communicants receive Communion in the hand while standing.

DVD Review: “Lead Kindly Light – The Life and Message of Blessed John Henry Newman”

The iPadre Catholic Podcast Posted on April 24, 2015 by Fr. Jay FinelliApril 24, 2015

Lead-Kindly-LightI must admit that I did not know much at all about Blessed John Henry Newman. This DVD was indeed a treat. The documentary presents the man who had many conversions throughout his life, as does any man who is searching for the truth. Newman’s search finally lead him to the ultimate conversion, to enter the Roman Catholic Church. A decision that lost him many friends, but gained him so many more. His great struggle difficult decision opened a door that eventually lead him to the Catholic Priesthood. Pope Leo XIII gave him the greatest honor of raising Newman to the Collage of Cardinals, a great confirmation of his faithfulness to Christ. Despite his great honors and notoriety, Blessed John Henry Newman always had the heart of a shepherd and lived the life of a parish priest. This DVD will inspire you in your own search for Christ, whether you are a non-Catholic probing the mysteries of life, or a life long Catholic constantly seeking to penetrate Him who Is Truth.
