The Vatican Gardens

The iPadre Catholic Podcast Posted on May 24, 2014 by Fr. Jay FinelliMay 24, 2014

This morning, I had a great tour of the Vatican Gardens with Msgr. Carlo Montecalvo. Monsignor is a priest from my diocese, working for the Vatican.

St. Peter freed from chains

“The very night when Herod was about to bring him out, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and sentries before the door were guarding the prison; and behold, an angel of the Lord appeared, and a light shone in the cell; and he struck Peter on the side and woke him, saying, “Get up quickly.” And the chains fell off his hands. And the angel said to him, “Dress yourself and put on your sandals.” And he did so. And he said to him, “Wrap your mantle around you and follow me.” And he went out and followed him; he did not know that what was done by the angel was real, but thought he was seeing a vision. When they had passed the first and the second guard, they came to the iron gate leading into the city. It opened to them of its own accord, and they went out and passed on through one street; and immediately the angel left him.” [11] And Peter came to himself, and said, “Now I am sure that the Lord has sent his angel and rescued me from the hand of Herod and from all that the Jewish people were expecting.” Acts 12:6-12

I would have loved to stay, but we already had lunch plans. I’ll take a rain check!

Did you really think I would visit the Vatican Gardens, without visiting the Vatican Railroad?

Roma – Pictures 02

The iPadre Catholic Podcast Posted on May 23, 2014 by Fr. Jay FinelliMay 23, 2014

My next stop today was at Sant’ Andrea al Qurinale. To my surprise and delight, I found the reconstructed rooms of St. Stanislaus Kostka.

St. Stanislaus Kostka.

St. Stanislaus Kostka.

In his room, they had a copy of the Roman Missal. If you look closely, they replaced many of the “S” with “J”. For example: “Jefum” would be “Jesum” today, “clementiffime” would be clemintissime”. I’m not sure why it is printed that way, but I’m looking into it. You can see more in the picture below.

In the church San Bernardo Alle Terme, there is the tomb of Karolo Finelli, a medieval artist. He might be a long lost relative.

Just below the Angelicum (Pontifical College of St. Thomas Aquinas), there is the church of S. Caterina da Siena a Magnapoli. All the times that I have traveled to Rome, this is the first time that I have found it open. The Servants of the Pierced Hearts of Jesus and Mary are now stations at this and another church in Rome. I had the pleasure of walking in on Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament and met Mother Adela Galindo as I was leaving.

Roma – Pictures 01

The iPadre Catholic Podcast Posted on May 23, 2014 by Fr. Jay FinelliMay 23, 2014

In the past two days, I have visited over 20 churches. One is more beautiful than the other. Tradition Catholic art and architecture lifts the mind and soul to God. Sometimes, all you can do is sit there in awe an wonder at the beauty. Here are just a few of my 285 pictures so far. How times have changed – we can take pictures to our hearts content and not worry about wasting film that you had to spend big money to develop.

Today, I started out at Sant’ Ignaio di Loyola. This beautiful Jesuit church holds the remains of St. Aloysious Gonzaga and his teacher, St. Robert Bellermine, who wanted to be buried near his student.

I went on from there to Santi Apostoli, or the Church of the Twelve Apostles. This is the resting place of Saints Philip and James.

Solemn Pontifical High Mass video

The iPadre Catholic Podcast Posted on May 19, 2014 by Fr. Jay FinelliMay 19, 2014

This Mass was requested by Bishop Thomas J. Tobin as one of the events for the 125 Anniversary of the Cathedral of Saints Peter & Paul in Providence, RI. It is the first Solemn High Pontifical Mass since 1968 to take place in our cathedral. It was set up by Fr. Jeremy Rodrigues, Administrative Secretary to the Bishop & Director of the Office of Worship. The cathedral holds 1,500 people and it was pretty full. Music was: “Mass in G” by Franz Schubert and the music of Aichinger, Viadana, Handel and Mozart. The Gregorian Chant Choir and Orchestra with Msgr. Anthony Mancini, Conductor and Mr. Philip Farone, Organist.

How long before Holy Mother Church sees the problem?

The iPadre Catholic Podcast Posted on May 7, 2014 by Fr. Jay FinelliMay 7, 2014 2

sacred_hostUPDATE: (5/12/14) One person wrote that the Satinists have stated that they will not be using a consecrated host. Do you really believe them? I don’t since they follow the father of lies. You can bet you highest dollar that they will create a sacrilege today. Pray, do penance and offer sacrifices in reparation for this great outrage.

(This took me quite a while to get out since I have been without internet since Saturday afternoon.)

You may have heard already that a group in Harvard plans to hold a “Black Mass”, using a Consecrated Host. The following was written by Elizabeth Scalia, a magnificent blogger over at Patheos. Here is part of her post:

Following up on this post, I have made a couple of phone calls to the The Cambridge Queen’s Head where Madelyn, an events manager, first promised to “research this”, saying that her computers were down. During a subsequent conversation, sounding very flustered, she and told me she had no comment to offer at the moment. Confirming that she is the Events manager, she promised a response later today.

She did confirm to another caller that the Harvard Cultural Exchange is having an event there, on May 12.

UPDATE: I just spoke to Priya Dua, PR director for The Satanic Temple and she has confirmed that yes, they have obtained and will use a Consecrated Host during this “re-enactment”. She is hopefully putting me in touch with someone who will answer my questions about how the Host was obtained, what they think they’re doing by using a Consecrated, as opposed to unconsecrated Host, and more.

Read the rest of Elizabeth’s post .

So, to my point. This stuff happens much more than you think. Remember back when someone was stealing while they videotaped it, did something sacrilegious to the Host and posted the videos on Youtube? I can’t tell you how many times priest friends and I have found hosts in missalettes, under pews, spit outside the church, or people we have chased up the aisle who had not received and either carried the host away or placed it in their pockets.

I wish the group of 8 Cardinals would read and meditate on “Dominus Est – It is the Lord!” by The Most Reverend Athanasius Schneider. Do we believe that Jesus Christ is present in the Sacred Host or do we not?

Some of you are probably saying: “But Father, if you only taught people how to receive, they would receive properly!” That just is not true. I have been pastor for 12 years and have preached about proper reception more than one time a year in those 12 years. For some people, it is as if I had never mentioned anything. Those are my “good”, every Sunday crew. What most people don’t take into account is the visitor who has not been to church in the last 2, 5, 10, 35, 50 + years and those who never go, but come to every funeral and wedding that takes place in every parish throughout the world.

To be quite frank, I am sick and tired of seeing Our Lord abused. Liturgical abuse never seems to enter into some people’s minds. And those it does are accused of being “rigid rubricists”. Enough of the bull dung (S***) and let’s get real. This is the real world. Most of us are not saints by any stretch of the imagination. We all have a broken sinful human nature. And there are some who have evil intentions. We need to be lead like the sheep we are. It’s time to go back to receiving Holy Communion as Pope Benedict XVI taught us by his humble example – kneeling and on the tongue!

Look they’ve done it again!

The iPadre Catholic Podcast Posted on April 23, 2014 by Fr. Jay FinelliApril 23, 2014

Corpus Christi Watershed has not only done it again, but they have surpassed their previous work. I have personally seen a Draft Copy of this new project. The St. Isaac Jogues Hymnal is truly exceptional. Have an insiders look at this beautiful hymnal in a well produced video. And for more information, visit here.

Blessed Sacrament Church in Providence

The iPadre Catholic Podcast Posted on April 21, 2014 by Fr. Jay FinelliApril 21, 2014

Here is a panorama I took at Blessed Sacrament Church in Providence today. Dedicated on June 5, 1904, this is a truly beautiful work of art. The parish has provided server vocations to the Church. The parish website states: “No fewer than 105 members of the Blessed Sacrament parish have responded to vocations to the priesthood or religious life 53 priests and 52 religious.” How many parishes have not produced one vocation in all of it’s existance?
